“Truth is not always the same as what people believe.”

synopsis

When a man is found dead outside his isolated mountain home in the French Alps, suspicion quickly falls on his wife. With no clear witnesses and conflicting evidence, the case moves to court where their troubled marriage becomes the central subject of investigation. As the trial unfolds, prosecutors attempt to prove murder while the defense argues that truth inside a relationship is far more complicated than a simple verdict.

mini-review

This is one of the smartest courtroom dramas in years. Rather than relying on shocking twists, the film builds tension through conversation, testimony, and the psychological dissection of a marriage. Sandra Hüller delivers a remarkable performance as a woman who may be innocent—or simply better at hiding the truth than everyone else. By the end, the audience isn’t asked to solve the mystery as much as confront how unreliable our interpretations of other people can be.

A thoughtful watch on a rainy evening when you’re in the mood for a smart, dialogue-driven mystery that keeps your brain working.

Absurdist's Corner

The court spends days analyzing every word of a couple’s arguments—something that would probably convict half the married population if recorded and replayed in public.
