mini-review

Directed by John Milius, Conan the Barbarian blends sword-and-sorcery fantasy with mythic storytelling and philosophical undertones. The film launched the film career of Arnold Schwarzenegger, whose imposing presence perfectly suits the legendary warrior. Combined with Basil Poledouris’s powerful orchestral score, the movie creates a gritty and surprisingly epic fantasy world that remains influential decades later.

A hearty steak dinner, a strong drink, and the mood for a gritty old-school fantasy adventure.

Absurdist's Corner

Conan survives slavery, gladiator combat, and countless battles… yet somehow never seems to acquire so much as a scratch that lasts longer than one scene.
