mini-review

Directed by Stanley Kubrick, this is satire so sharp it still draws blood. The genius move is playing apocalypse for laughs—and making the laughter uncomfortable. Peter Sellers’ multiple performances are masterful, but the real star is the screenplay’s fearless logic: if deterrence theory is taken seriously enough, extinction becomes bureaucratic inevitability. It’s hilarious and horrifying in equal measure.

A stiff martini. Late-night viewing. Anyone who thinks government incompetence is a recent development.
