"Scotty doesn't know."

synopsis

After a humiliating breakup and a misunderstanding involving his German pen pal, recent graduate Scott Thomas embarks on an impulsive trip across Europe with his friends. Their journey takes them through misread cultural cues, accidental political incidents, and escalating romantic disasters. Each country becomes a stage for exaggerated stereotypes and reckless behavior as the group attempts to fix a mistake that only grows larger the farther they travel.

mini-review

It’s proudly juvenile, occasionally clever, and frequently absurd. The film doesn’t pretend to offer insight into Europe — it offers cartoon chaos built on American cluelessness. While structurally thin, it thrives on momentum and outrageous set pieces. It works best when it embraces its own stupidity without apology. For some, that’s refreshing; for others, it’s exhausting.

A backpacking plan that prioritizes chaos over culture.

Absurdist's Corner

An entire international trip driven by a single misunderstood email.

fun facts

Most of the “European” locations were filmed in the Czech Republic. “Scotty Doesn’t Know” became a real-world charting single. Matt Damon’s cameo performance as the band’s lead singer was a surprise inclusion.
