mini-review

Directed by Ridley Scott, this is old-school epic filmmaking resurrected for modern audiences. It blends sweeping spectacle with intimate grief, anchored by Russell Crowe’s restrained but simmering performance. The action sequences are visceral without feeling cartoonish, and Hans Zimmer’s score carries a mythic weight. It’s revenge drama dressed in sandals and steel — operatic, muscular, and unapologetically grand.

A big screen, volume up. Red wine or something smoky. Watch when you’re in the mood for righteous vengeance and operatic masculinity.

Absurdist's Corner

A slave with zero political leverage manages to destabilize the Roman Empire through arena popularity. Bread and circuses apparently double as regime change.
