mini-review

A glossy entry in the post-Scream slasher revival, the film blends teen melodrama with stalking suspense. It’s less self-aware than its contemporaries, leaning instead on atmosphere and mounting paranoia. The seaside setting gives it a moody edge, and while it doesn’t reinvent the genre, it delivers exactly what it promises: guilt, secrets, and a killer who takes revenge personally.

A late-night watch, dim lighting, and nostalgic appreciation for 90s teen suspense.

Absurdist's Corner

Four people can apparently keep a deadly secret flawlessly for an entire year — until horror-movie timing demands they unravel simultaneously.

fun facts

  • Written by Kevin Williamson, who also penned Scream, helping define late-90s horror.

  • Loosely inspired by a 1973 novel by Lois Duncan.
