“You’re gonna need a bigger boat.”
synopsis
Directed by Steven Spielberg, Jaws follows Police Chief Martin Brody as a great white shark begins attacking swimmers in the small resort town of Amity Island. As political pressure mounts to keep the beaches open, Brody teams up with a marine biologist and a grizzled shark hunter to track and kill the predator offshore.

mini-review
Often credited with inventing the summer blockbuster, Jaws is more than a monster movie. Spielberg turns mechanical limitations (the famously malfunctioning shark) into suspense gold by suggesting terror rather than showing it. The first half is pure tension; the second becomes an adventure survival tale. Beneath the thrills lies commentary on denial, bureaucracy, and male bravado. It’s lean, iconic, and endlessly rewatchable.
Summer viewing — though perhaps not the night before a beach vacation.
Absurdist's Corner
A coastal town debates tourism revenue versus being eaten. Capitalism: undefeated, even against dorsal fins.
