“The sex is in the heel.”

synopsis

When a traditional English shoe factory faces collapse, reluctant heir Charlie Price discovers an unexpected niche market: high-fashion boots built to support drag performers. Enter Lola — magnetic, demanding, and far more business-savvy than Charlie expects. As the factory workers struggle with prejudice, pride, and the fear of irrelevance, the company gambles everything on a flashy Milan fashion show. What begins as desperation slowly becomes reinvention.

mini-review

It’s softer than its premise suggests. Rather than leaning into culture-war caricature, the film plays like a workplace redemption story. The humor is warm, the transformation gradual, and the emotional beats earned. It’s not edgy — but it’s sincere, and sincerity wins here.

A rainy evening, a couch that fits three, and someone who says they “don’t usually like movies like this.”

Absurdist's Corner

An entire factory of traditional cobblers pivoting overnight to engineering drag-ready stilettos is capitalism at its most theatrical.
