mini-review
This film essentially turns the beloved British TV series into a darker, bigger-budget crime thriller. Idris Elba’s Luther remains a compelling mix of moral intensity and reckless obsession. The villain—played with chilling flair by Andy Serkis—is almost operatically sinister, pushing the story toward grand, high-stakes territory. Fans of brooding detective stories and cat-and-mouse serial-killer plots will feel right at home.
A cold night, the lights off, and something smoky in a glass—this is prime brooding-detective viewing.
Absurdist's Corner
Breaking out of prison to solve crimes may technically violate several laws Luther previously swore to uphold. But at this point the authorities seem to have accepted that letting him run around London catching killers is simply the most efficient system.
