mini-review

Few films are as uncompromisingly strange. What begins as a giant-robot apocalypse gradually dissolves into psychological dissection. The narrative fractures into dream imagery, philosophical monologues, and symbolic spectacle that borders on operatic meltdown. Some viewers find it bewildering; others find it hypnotic. Either way, it refuses safe interpretation. The film is less interested in plot than in emotional collapse, confronting the viewer with the uncomfortable question of whether isolation is a personal choice or an unavoidable human condition.

A quiet night and patience for a film that refuses easy answers.

Absurdist's Corner

When the fate of humanity hinges on emotionally unstable teenagers piloting biomechanical giants, perhaps the recruitment process deserves review.

fun facts

  • Created partly in response to intense fan reactions to the original television series finale.

  • The film’s imagery draws heavily from religious symbolism, though many of the references were chosen more for visual power than theological meaning.

  • Its production combined traditional animation with experimental techniques to convey psychological fragmentation.
