“The regime can take away my freedom, but it can’t take away my humor.”

mini-review

Based on the autobiographical graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi, Persepolis blends stark black-and-white animation with a deeply personal coming-of-age story. Directed by Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud, the film balances political history with intimate storytelling. Its simple visual style allows the emotional honesty of Marjane’s experiences—fear, rebellion, exile, and resilience—to resonate powerfully.

A thoughtful evening, a glass of wine, and the mood for animation that tackles real-world history and identity.

Absurdist's Corner

Even during political revolution and cultural upheaval, teenagers somehow remain primarily concerned with music, clothes, and getting into trouble.
