mini-review
What makes Scream endure isn’t just its cleverness — it’s its control. The opening sequence alone is a masterclass in tension. The film walks a razor’s edge between satire and sincerity, poking fun at genre tropes while delivering genuinely effective scares. It’s self-aware without being smug. And it quietly resets the slasher template for the next two decades.
A group watch. Ideal with people who’ve seen a lot of horror and like catching references.
Absurdist's Corner
A killer explains the rules of horror movies while actively breaking them. It’s like being murdered by a film studies major.
