mini-review
Groundbreaking and historically monumental, this was Disney’s first feature-length animated film. Dramatically simple but visually enchanting, it established the template for the animated musical. Its emotional palette is broad but not especially deep — fairy tale logic rules the day.
Historical curiosity and an appreciation for where it all began.
Absurdist's Corner
A magic mirror validates homicidal vanity, woodland animals serve as domestic staff, and a kingdom accepts necromantic resurrection via “true love’s kiss” without follow-up questions. Fairy tale logic operates as airtight jurisprudence.
fun facts
Walt Disney mortgaged his house to finance the film.
It was the first full-length cel-animated feature.
The multiplane camera created depth rarely seen at the time.
It received a special honorary Oscar (one full-sized, seven miniature).
