“I’m not paranoid. I’m prepared.”

synopsis

Directed by Martin Scorsese, The Aviator depicts the ambitious and increasingly unstable life of aviation pioneer and Hollywood mogul Howard Hughes. From financing epic war films to designing cutting-edge aircraft, Hughes embodies excess and innovation in equal measure. As his wealth and influence expand, so does his obsessive-compulsive disorder, isolating him from lovers, colleagues, and reality itself.

mini-review

Leonardo DiCaprio delivers a committed performance that balances charm, arrogance, and unraveling fragility. Scorsese captures the glamour of early Hollywood while gradually tightening the psychological screws. The film is lush and propulsive, yet its most powerful moments are quiet — Hughes compulsively repeating phrases in isolation. It’s a portrait of American ambition turned inward and corrosive.

A long evening when you’re in the mood for ambition on a grand scale. Best watched when you can commit — it’s not background cinema.

Absurdist's Corner

A man who conquers the skies becomes imprisoned by invisible germs in his own mind.
