mini-review

The Deer Hunter is less a traditional war film than a powerful exploration of how war transforms the people who experience it. Director Michael Cimino devotes nearly an hour to the characters’ lives before they even reach Vietnam, making the devastation that follows feel deeply personal. The film’s haunting portrayal of trauma and friendship makes it one of the most emotionally powerful films about the Vietnam War.

A quiet evening and the patience for a long, emotional journey into one of the most haunting Vietnam War stories ever filmed.

Absurdist's Corner

A group of friends who once hunted deer together with careful precision now find themselves trapped in a war where survival depends almost entirely on luck.
