“Writers are thieves of reality.”

synopsis

After winning the Nobel Prize in Literature, an internationally celebrated Argentine writer accepts an invitation to return to the small rural town where he was born—a place he left decades earlier and rarely speaks about. What begins as a polite homecoming gradually turns uncomfortable as the townspeople begin recognizing themselves in the writer’s novels, revealing long-buried resentments and awkward truths about art, fame, and the people who inspire it.

mini-review

Sharp, witty, and quietly satirical, The Distinguished Citizen explores the complicated relationship between artists and their hometowns. Oscar Martínez delivers a brilliant performance as the aloof writer who slowly realizes that literary inspiration can come with personal consequences. The film balances humor and social commentary while examining how success can change the way people see both themselves and the past.

A glass of wine and the mood for a clever, slightly biting satire about art, ego, and hometown pride.

Absurdist's Corner

A writer returns home expecting admiration, only to discover that his novels may have offended nearly everyone in town.
