“Some things in here don’t react well to bullets.”
synopsis
When a Soviet submarine captain sets sail in a state-of-the-art stealth vessel, American intelligence fears an imminent first strike. CIA analyst Jack Ryan suspects something far more dangerous — or far more hopeful. As naval forces close in, political tension escalates and the true intentions of Captain Ramius remain uncertain. mini-review
Directed by John McTiernan, this is action-adventure for grown-ups — tense, intelligent, and refreshingly dialogue-driven. The submarine sequences are claustrophobic without being chaotic, and Sean Connery radiates controlled authority. The movie respects its audience, trusting us to follow strategy and motive instead of spoon-feeding explosions. It’s cool, methodical, and quietly gripping.
Quiet room. Subtitles on if you like precision. Best watched when you’re alert enough to follow strategy — not a background movie.
Absurdist's Corner
