mini-review
This is brisk, creature-driven fantasy with just enough edge to feel slightly dangerous without tipping into darkness. It’s more compact than sprawling epics like Narnia, focusing instead on sibling dynamics and the tension of a hidden magical ecosystem just beyond the backyard. The creature effects are lively and imaginative, and the tone remains grounded in family rather than myth. It doesn’t aim for grandeur; it aims for adventure — and largely succeeds.
A rainy afternoon when you want something slightly spooky but not emotionally heavy.
Absurdist's Corner
Apparently the woods are packed with magical creatures… yet the local real estate market remains unaffected.
